Over the past decade, there has been a rise in fiction that seems to disregard quality in order to be easily digested by the masses. Science fiction and fantasy readers seem to be less susceptible to such a lower pegging, but it still happens. A lack of interest seems to have seeped into the print media in printing stories that invigorate the senses or the reader. Many are the writers who have ideas that are fresh, yet they are pushed aside for lack of marketability. It is with that thought in mind that Sheer Speculation Press was formed.

Sheer Speculation Press is a small press focusing on the speculative fiction genre. Our intent is to publish quality pieces within the genre that take the time to enlighten the reader, rather than shock them. Stories submitted to Sheer Speculation Press should be literary in nature – in other words, send us stories that you would feel comfortable sending to a non-genre review or magazine but which are still easily discernable as taking place within the boundaries of the two genres.

As with our magazine publication, there is a sincere interest in not publishing works that contain a great deal of gore, violence, sex, graphic content, or vulgar language. There is more leeway here, however, as we’re more willing to walk the line of acceptable and not.
